Pro-Level Home Turf: The Backyard of Sam Burns

Sam Burns rose quickly on Tour after turning pro in the year 2017 and has grown stronger with every season. He’s won multiple PGA Tour events, including Valspar Championship victories in 2 successive years and a strong start on the Korn Ferry Tour — achievements that highlight his need for real course feel.
PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Putting green: 1,000 sq ft — GB177 (Golden Bear Putt), color 301
Lawn turf grass: 1,500 sq ft — 164SW, color 301
Sand bunker: 144 sq ft — Artificial turf topped with real sand
Total project: 2,644 sq ft
THE PUTTING GREEN: GB177 GOLDEN BEAR PUTT
Sam selected GB177 (color 301) for a practice turf that mimics a natural putting surface. The low, thick pile gives authentic roll and consistent pace, so every stroke helps you improve. For a player who values touch practice between tournaments, that consistency matters.

THE TURF LAWN: 164SW IN COLOR 301
The 1,500 sq ft lawn area uses 164SW in the matching color to keep the look seamless from putting green to fringe. That space is ideal for warmups, pitch shots, family time, and retaining a clean look with very little upkeep.

THE BUNKER: REAL SAND OVER TURF
Instead of a simulated sand appearance, Sam’s bunker uses real sand applied over artificial grass. That delivers realistic trap shots while maintaining neat boundaries and easy care around the green. It’s a smart choice for anyone considering a synthetic grass installation with custom features.

WHY THIS LAYOUT WORKS
This setup combines serious practice with casual use. A practice putting area lets Sam dial in speed and line. The artificial lawn provides soft landing zones for shots and a place for family gatherings. The sand trap delivers realistic bunker practice without the fuss of a full-scale bunker renovation.
Background on Sam: Sam secured his first pro victory at the Savannah Golf Championship in 2018, birdying the last three holes to win, and later won more PGA Tour events, including the Sanderson Farms PGA event and Valspar events. He sharpened his game at LSU before making it big on Tour.
